environment & ESG
actively working with Environment and ESG
The environment is a key priority for us, as we believe that, as a manufacturing company, we have a responsibility to work sustainably and continuously reduce our impact on the surroundings.
We are assessed by EcoVadis and actively work with ESG and sustainability initiatives.
Waste heat from our production is fed into the local district heating network, and we continuously work to integrate sustainability into our processes.
These efforts contribute to UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production.
Ecovadis – We take responsibility
As part of our sustainability efforts, we have been assessed by EcoVadis, a recognised platform for evaluating corporate ESG performance (environment, social responsibility, and governance).
EcoVadis evaluates us within areas such as environment, labour and human rights, ethics, and responsible sourcing, helping us continuously improve our work towards a more responsible and sustainable business.

Reusing waste heat
Injection moulding requires significant amounts of energy to heat moulds and plastic granulate – energy that is simply lost if it is not recovered.
In 2018, Unika installed a large-scale heat recovery system, which has since enabled us to:
- Deliver recovered energy to the local district heating plant (Ans Kraftvarmeværk)
- Stop the use of heating oil
- Prevent excessive heat in production halls, improving working conditions
- Achieve better control of cooling water and mould temperatures
This is energy that would otherwise disappear into thin air every minute, hour, day, and week.
Our system contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal No. 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production, while also giving Ans Kraftvarmeværk a green advantage by supplying carbon-neutral surplus heat to the district heating network.
A major investment – but a greener conscience: today, more than 50% of the energy used at Unika is recovered and returned to the district heating system..
Sustainability and Environment in Focus
The environment is a priority for us, as we believe that, as a manufacturing company, we have a responsibility to operate sustainably.
By agreement with our customers, we can produce components using recycled plastics or bioplastics.
To further reduce carbon emissions and contribute to environmental improvements, we have implemented the following initiatives:
- Continuous focus on reducing plastic waste and scrap in production
- Sorting and grinding plastic waste in-house so it can be reused in new products
- Recycling of metal waste materials
- Recent investments in energy-efficient injection moulding machines — either fully electric or hydraulic machines fitted with frequency converters
- Investments in lower energy consumption, including:
- Electric forklifts
- Extraction systems with frequency converters
- Automatic light on/off control in production areas
- Replacement of traditional lighting with LED
